Breakdown of the First Captain America: Civil War Footage - And Other Highlights from Marvel's D23 Panel
The footage opens on fast-paced fight scenes, including Black Widow taking down multiple men at one time. Black Widow and Hawkeye square off, with Black Widow asking, "We're still friends, right?" Hawkeye responds, "Depends on how hard you hit me." All of the Avengers are accounted for, except for Hulk.
In an extended version of the Ant-Man post-credits scene, Bucky, aka The Winter Soldier, is being held by the government in a cage. There's a hidden "D23" Easter egg, just for the attendees (which probably won't be in the released version). Bucky apparently has some of his memories back, as he remembers Steve's mother's name (Sara), and that Steve used to wear newspapers in his shoes.
"You know he remembered you. Your pal, your buddy, your Bucky."
Finally, there's an adorable meeting between Ant-Man and Captain America. Hawkeye opens the door of a van to reveal Scott Lang, who is completely starstruck by Captain America and begins to fanboy out. Scott says, "You know a lot of super people, so thinks for thanking of me."
Of course, the footage got a standing ovation:
And here are a few other highlights from Marvel's D23 panel, especially Kevin Feige's preview of Doctor Strange:
Doctor Strange will have multiple costumes
Feige confirmed several things we already knew: that Doctor Strange is in pre-production, that Tilda Swinton is playing The Ancient One, and Chiwetel Ejiofor is playing Mordo. But he also confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch will have several costumes playing the magical superhero:
Civil War has one more week of filming
No wonder they were ready to release footage, because initial filming wraps next week!
Doctor Strange is being monitored by S.H.I.E.L.D.
It's more difficult to tie Doctor Strange to the rest of the MCU, as he often exists in his own plane (in his greeting video, Cumberbatch made reference to multiple dimensions). But apparently, the film will tie to the rest of the M.C.U. through the centralized spy association, which is monitoring Stephen Strange for some reason.
Doctor Strange concept art shows Inception-like special effects
Several members of the audience referred to the new Doctor Strange concept art as "Inception-like" special effects, including cars floating in the air, and Strange releasing energy blasts from his hands.
Chris Evans watches on-ride Disneyland videos
Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie took the stage, and Evans admitted to being a "big, big Disney fan." So big, in fact, that when he's had a bad day, he watches Disneyland home videos on Youtube. Mackie added, "And then we go back to our trailers and sing the Frozen theme song."
