First On-Set Footage from Star Trek Beyond with Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, and a New Alien
The first footage from Star Trek Beyond is here- or at least the first takes shot in front of a green screen. In this new set video from Screencrush, several of the stars show off their new costumes, as well as a new species of alien.
The video shows a scene being filmed with returning stars Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, and Anton Yelchin, as well as newcomer Sofia Boutella, best known for playing the blade-legged assassin Gazelle in Kingsman: The Secret Service. The scene shows Pine's Captain Kirk and Boutella's mysterious character getting out of a damaged spacecraft, closely followed by Scotty and Chekov, played by Pegg and Yelchin, respectively.
It's filmed in front of a green screen, so we don't get to see any of the special effects, but we do get to see the costumes. The new Starfleet uniforms are much more practical than the flashier, multicolored uniforms we've seen in the past, although Scotty more or less retains the style from the previous films in the reboot.
But the most intriguing part of the video is definitely Boutella's character, who seems to be a type of alien we've never seen in the history of the Star Trek franchise. She has been described as a "lead role" and is highly billed, so we can only assume that her character is significant, but other than the strange facial markings, that's all we know so far.
Star Trek Beyond comes out in theaters on July 8, 2016.
