Spectre's Lea Seydoux Offered Lead Role in Gambit
Earlier this month, a shortlist of actresses was announced for the lead in Fox's Gambit adaptation, including Mission Impossible: Ghost Nation star Rebecca Ferguson, Mad Max: Fury Road's Abbey Lee, and Spectre's Lea Seydoux. Now, Deadline reports that the studio has officially offered the role to Seydoux, who would star opposite Channing Tatum as the title character.

If she takes the role, she would play the Marvel Comics character Belladonna Boudreaux (Bella Donna in the comics). Belladonna was a childhood friend of Gambit's and a recurring love interest, who later gains her own mutant powers. It's unknown whether Belladonna will have her own superpowers, but I hope she becomes a superhero in her own right. Not only do we need more female superheroes, but Seydoux has already proven herself more than capable of carrying an action movie, as she has appeared in Inglorious Basterds, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, and has just finished filming a starring role in the newest Bond film, Spectre.

Seydoux is also just an extremely talented actress, as she is also known for her roles in prestigious dramas, including Midnight in Paris, Saint Laurent, and a breakout performance in Blue is the Warmest Color, which earned her a Palme D'Or and nominations for Cesar and BAFTA awards.

After a troubled start, Gambit seems to be moving along smoothly, as Channing Tatum has officially worked out his contract to play Gambit and Rise of the Planet of the Apes's Rupert Wyatt has signed on to direct. The film will be part of Fox's X-Men universe, and will hit theaters on October 7, 2016.
