Hannibal's Mads Mikkelsen in Talks for Villain Role in Doctor Strange
Hannibal is sadly coming to an end, but fans can at least take comfort that star Mads Mikkelsen isn't struggling to find work, particularly in the geek realm. It was recently announced that he would play a significant role in Star Wars: Rogue One, and now Variety reports that he is also being courted by Marvel to join the cast of Doctor Strange.

There are no details on his role yet, except that he will play a villain. We already know that Chiwetel Ejiofor is playing classic Doctor Strange villain Baron Mordo, but there's not necessarily an obvious second villain that comes to mind. We would guess Dormammu, who is arguably the most prominent Doctor Strange villain behind Baron Mordo. He's also incredibly powerful, much more powerful than both Baron Mordo and Doctor Strange, and so would likely be the "big picture" villain where Mordo is more of a one-off, but that's pure speculation at this point.

Marvel has already proven themselves to be fans of Mikkelsen, as they cast him as the Thor: The Dark World villain Malekith, but Mikkelsen had to drop out due to his Hannibal commitments. If he accepts the Doctor Strange role, it will likely prove to be a more fruitful way into the Marvel Universe; The Dark World was fairly disappointing, while Doctor Strange at least has potential to be great, especially now that it's being compared to Fantasia.

It was also announced at D23 that Mikkelsen had joined the cast of Star Wars: Rogue One, revealed in the first ever official photo:

Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular superhero and Tilda Swinton as his mentor, The Ancient One. It will be directed by Scott Derrickson from a script written by Jon Spaihts, and is slated for release on November 4, 2018.
