Under the Dome Will End After Its Third Season
< >
Under the Dome, CBS's adaptation of the Stephen King novel, will come to an end next week, as the show has been canceled after three seasons. The September 10 season finale will also serve as the series finale, with CBS promising that the Dome will come down "as dramatically as it went up."

Under the Dome began in the summer of 2013 to monster ratings, becoming the most-watched summer pilot in 21 years and hailed by critics as the summer's most exciting new show. It was also groundbreaking in its format, as CBS would air an episode on television and then debut a streaming version a few days later, which proved very lucrative for the network.

But, as the extremely limited premise was stretched thinner and thinner, the plot twists became more and more ludicrous, and both critical acclaim and ratings plummeted. Honestly, considering the unsustainability of the premise, we're less surprised at its cancellation than the fact that it lasted three seasons to begin with.

At the very least, it sounds like the show will go out with a bang (or a crash). The official synopsis for the series finale reads:

Opening quote
"In the series finale, when the Dome comes down, many questions about its origin and power will be answered, as two groups of residents engage in one final conflict that some won't survive."
