Syfy Renews Killjoys and Dark Matter for Second Seasons
< >
For those of you who are sad about Under the Dome being cancelled, this might be a nice consolation prize. Syfy has just renewed freshman series Killjoys and Dark Matter for second seasons.

Killjoys is a space opera which follows three interplanetary bounty hunters, played by Smallville and Warehouse 13's Aaron Ashmore, Hannah John-Kamen, and Luke Macfarlane, who follow deadly warrants as they attempt to remain neutral in a class war that threatens to destroy their planetary system. The second season will consist of ten hourlong episodes, to air sometime in 2016.

Opening quote
"Mostly the journey next year is going to be for our trio to have a greater understanding of what really happened on Arkin, what is the connection that Khlyen and or Dutch have to that and what does that mean to their greater existence," Killjoys creator Michelle Lovretta told THR.

Dark Matter, based on the acclaimed graphic novel from Dark Horse Comics, follows six members of a spaceship crew who wake up from stasis without any memory of who they are or how they got there. Life support is low, and they have to deal with all the standard and not-so-standard threats of deep space. The show is helmed by Stargate writers Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, who also wrote the graphic novel. The second season will consist of 13 hourlong episodes, also to air sometime in 2016.

Opening quote
"The first season was about peeling the onion on these characters' backstories, finding out who they are, and it's very personal," Mallozzi told THR. "Season two we blow the doors off, do some world building, the past comes back to haunt and at the same time, the characters wrap up their exploration of their respective backstories. There's going to be a real driving force early on in the season. In much of the first season the characters were reactive, on their heels, whereas in season two they become proactive."
