Edge of Tomorrow Team Reunites for Sci-Fi Film 'Luna Park'

After working together on the surprise runaway hit Edge of Tomorrow, dream team Tom Cruise and Doug Liman will once again join forces for Luna Park, a long-developing sci-fi film that takes place in outer space. Cruise is developing the film along with Liman, and will likely star if the movie goes forward.

Cruise signing onto the film may be the boost it needs, as it has been in development hell for about four years. Back in 2011, it had stars like Chris Evans and Andrew Garfield eyeing the lead role, but Paramount put on the brakes when the co-financiers balked at the $100 million plus budget. But now, after the success of Cruise's films Jack Reacher and Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, both of which were from Paramount, the studio will likely be a little more open to taking risks on the original sci-fi pic.

Specific plot details are unknown, but according to Variety, the plot revolves around "a group of renegade employees who venture to the moon to steal an energy source."

If the movie is greenlit, then it may not go into production for at least a year. Cruise has a full slate of commitments, with Jack Reacher 2 coming up and a Mission Impossible sequel expected to begin production sometime in 2016.

Cruise and Liman developed a close working relationship after Edge of Tomorrow, and will work together once again on the drug thriller Mena, which is expected to be released in January 2017. There's also still a chance they will team up for a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow, as Cruise recently pitched an idea to Liman and screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie.
