Star Wars: The Force Awakens Rumored to Have a Marvel-Style Post-Credits Scene
It seems like everyone is copying Marvel's cinematic universe model these days, but will post-credits scenes become a staple of all geek movies as well? A new rumor from Schmoes Know claims that the rebooted Star Wars franchise will take their cue from the MCU and include a post-credits scene after Star Wars: The Force Awakens that will preview future installments in the series.

Disney owns both Marvel and Lucasfilm, so it only makes sense that they would use a proven method to drive excitement and hype for future films in a franchise. Many Star Wars fans would be disgruntled if they included a post-credits scene, as that would break tradition with all of the previous films, so that makes it a little less likely. But on the other hand, the new Star Wars series is already building a cinematic universe of sorts, and they're clearly willing to break with tradition in order to make the franchise more profitable, as they've never done standalone anthology films either.

But Star Wars fans will be relieved to know that there's a reason to take this rumor with a grain of salt: the sources are claiming that the post-credits scene will specifically preview the next film in the series, Rogue One. This would be intuitive enough, except that Rogue One takes place in an entirely different time period, more than 30 years before the events of The Force Awakens, which makes it seem less probable. But I don't think that precludes the possibility; it would be easy enough to have some kind of "a long, long time ago"-type disclaimer. And there's always the possibility that the rumor is half-true, that the film will have a post-credits scene that previews Episode VIII, which starts filming this month in Ireland.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18, while Rogue One opens on December 16, 2016 and the as-yet-untitled Episode VIII comes out on May 26, 2017.
