Gal Gadot Turned Down a Role in Man of Steel, Almost Didn’t Become Wonder Woman
The casting of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has become quite a matter of controversy among fans of comic book movies - maybe even more so than the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman. Now Gadot has revealed that she almost didn't become Wonder Woman.

In a recent interview with the Israeli website Xnet, Gadot said the following:

Opening quote
"When I was a month pregnant with (my daughter) Alma, I got an offer to be the evil Superman character. If I wasn't pregnant I'd take the job, and there's no way they would take me now to be Wonder Woman."
Closing quote

The quote is translated from Hebrew, so it might read just a little rough. However, the news that Gadot was previously offered a semi-major role in Man of Steel is quite the revelation! The implication of Gal being offered the part of a "evil Superman character" is that she probably could have taken on the role of Faora, who ended up being portrayed by Antje Traue instead.

In Man of Steel, Faora was one of Zod's soldiers who escaped the phantom zone and helped the evil Kryptonian general with his scheme to terraform the earth and create a new Krypton in its place. She had quite a few important scenes throughout the film, including a major fight sequence with Superman that took place about midway through. This means that Gal Gadot could have ended up fighting with Superman instead of alongside him, as she will in future DCEU films.

Some fans continue to question whether the right call was made by casting an actress like Gadot in such a significant part as Wonder Woman. They complain that she hasn't truly proven herself as an actress, or that she's simply not the right body type. Yet Gadot seems to have the perfect build for the part when compared to her counterpart from the comics, and she's even from the same part of the world as Wonder Woman. My predictions are that we'll eventually see a transition from skepticism to support similar to what's currently taking place with the general perception of Ben Affleck taking on the part of Batman when the film finally debuts.

This month, an article on Batman v Superman in Empire Magazine made the claim that Gal "blew everyone in the room away" with her audition. If that turns out to be true, then you can expect a whole lot of people who will be very, very glad come March that Gal Gadot turned down that part in Man of Steel.
