Greg Berlanti Reportedly Working on a Booster Gold and Blue Beetle Team-Up Movie for Warner Bros.

Between The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, and Legend of Tomorrow, Greg Berlanti has his hands rather full right now. Since giving us the Green Lantern movie in 2011, the writer and producer has hit his stride with his DC Comics TV universe, creating hit after hit after hit. But according to a new report, Berlanti could be returning to the big screen with two lesser-known but beloved DC Comics heroes.

TB reports that Berlanti is in the process of putting together a new team-up movie featuring DC heroes Booster Gold and Blue Beetle. According to the report, Berlanti has been given the go ahead to start building a writing team for the movie, which would feature two characters who have long been rumored to get their own on-screen adaptation. Joining in the fun, perennial rumor mongers Heroic Hollywood added to the rumor by suggesting that Avengers and Incredible Hulk Writer Zak Penn could be tempted to join the DC Comics project, penning the script for the ambitious movie.

With his trademark superhero ego and future humility, Booster Gold is well-loved among DC Comics fans. Blue Beetle has regularly appeared alongside Booster Gold, but most DC fans would forgive me for saying that he has always played second fiddle to his partner's showboating ways. TB is claiming that the movie will be modelled on the buddy cop movies of the late 80's, a theme that would certainly fit with the character's unique personalities.

Such a movie would be in stark contrast to Warner Bros. current approach, which is to make more serious and brooding superhero movies. However, both Booster Gold and Blue Beetle have been members of the Justice League, so it could be that DC and WB are looking to cover their bases in case they receive future backlash over the dour tone of their movies. I could easily see this zany duo making the odd comic relief cameo in some of the DCEU movies, but what do you think of this prospect? Let us know in the box below!

If you're not convinced, maybe we can convince you with this touching fan video of some of the duo's best moments set to some sappy music by The Fray.
