Security Experts Say the Mr. Robot Hack Could Happen in Real Life
In season one of the groundbreaking, critically acclaimed USA show Mr. Robot, hackers use a program to take down a huge corporation—aptly named Evil Corp—which takes down the entire economic system. Season two will explore the ramifications of that decision, but first things first, could such a hack ever happen in real life? And if it did, as Elliot says, "Is that all it takes to kill the world?"
In the above featurette, several security experts claim that such a hack is pretty much possible, even if it's likely dramatized a little. Ryan Kazanciyan, chief security architect for Tanium, says that there are plenty of companies that fall into the "too big to fail" category, and that a destructive hack on any of them would have frightening implications for society.

Peiter Zatko, cyber-security expert and and founder of the L0pht Hacker Collective, went even further, and made it sound like an analogous hack in real life could actually lead to some sort of apocalypse.

So did F Society do everyone a favor, or did they just take the entire world down? That question will be extensively explored in the next season (including footage of Obama talking about Evil Corp, which—how did they do that??).

Mr. Robot returns for season two on July 13 at 10pm on USA.
