Project Aims To Promote NASA Programs To Sci Fi Fans

Finally, a crowd-funding project that we truly believe in. The concept is so good, it's a wonder that it hasn't been done before.

'We Are The Explorers' is an IndieGoGo project, which aims to promote NASA's new wave of space exploration programs with a 30 second slot before the highly anticipated 'Star Trek: Into Darkness' movie.

It's a no brainer. Science and Science Fiction have forever gone hand-in-hand in terms of the issues they address. Science Fiction is the dreamer, continuously challenging Science and its great minds to reach further. But many times, Science is able to inspire Science Fiction, its writers and its fans alike.

So at a time when many believe NASA to be winding down to running a series of uninspiring missions, 'We Are The Explorers' aims to remind a mass audience that this is far from the truth. The extended trailer (above) is truly inspiring. So inspiring in fact, it is a wonder how the team will ever manage to reduce it down to 30 seconds.

But a 30 second slot before a film like 'Into Darkness', where audiences will be transported into an almost unimaginable future Earth, is the perfect place for such a message, heck, Sci-Fi fans are the perfect people to receive it! These guys aren't silly either, they've managed to get Sci-Fi royalty, Andrew Cullen (voice of Optimus Prime) to do the voice over to the video.

Headed up by a team from The Aerospace Industries Association of America, the IndieGoGo project is looking to raise $33,000 by Wednesday 1st May, a goal that at the time of writing is just $17,000 away. If the project is funded, it will mean that not only are Star Trek fans going to be witness to the first Ender's Game trailer, they, and hopefully their children will be inspired to promote NASA's cause to everyone they know.
