Real-Life Thor Creates Flying Hammer That Returns to His Hand
Over the last five years, YouTube has seen a rise in incredibly capable tech hobbyists with access to advanced machine tooling and a burning love of sci-fi.
In the past, we covered the Hacksmith (who has created functioning Wolverine claws and a real bat-grappling hook) and PatchBOTS (who is hard at work crafting working Star Wars droids).
Now we add Allen Pan of Sufficiently Advanced to this roster of techno-geeks, along with his flying Mjolnir hammer:
The thing that pushes this little gadget over the edge is definitely the backpack-mounted hand controls—it looks like something Peter Parker would put together in his room to help fight crime. Though the flimsy hammerhead would need to be sturdier for actual use, being able to let go of the hammer and have it fly at someone is way cool (sorry, camera person!).
As an added piece of nerd cred, Allen Pan was previously under consideration by the Discovery Channel to be one of the new Mythbusters. Even though he wasn't chosen, it's clear from his videos that he's more than qualified.
If you'd like to try your hand at creating your own drone hammer based on Allen's designs, you can check out the tutorial here.
As most Thor fans will know by now, Mjolnir's time as the sidearm of the Thunder God in the MCU is pretty much over (Hela crushes the hammer, as shown in the trailers for Thor: Ragnarok).
Still, a giant axe may be on the horizon—an axe named Jarnbjorn, to be exact. Considering that Jarnbjorn is supposed to be able to cut through anything, we're guessing YouTubers like Pan will soon be forging carbon-fiber replicas in their garages...for science.
