Denver Is Getting 'Hyperloop,' But Not the One You Think

Elon Musk is on a quest to bring Hyperloop to the world—but now he's got some serious competition. Brogan BamBrogan, a former Hyperloop One employee, is beating him to the punch.

Elon Musk hates traffic. To date, he has pitched the world on Hyperloop One, the Boring Company, and the Falcon 2 Heavy Rocket, the latter of which will alleviate traffic by moving people off Earth permanently. But for all the publicity surrounding Musk's ambitious (and sometimes bizarre) projects, it looks like his former employee BamBrogan will build the country's first Hyperloop before him.

Colorado has announced the creation of a $15 million test track for BamBrogan's Arriva Hyperloop transportation system in the city of Aurora, which will run along the E-470 toll highway and allow for easier transportation between the airport and downtown Denver.

The track will be above-ground and will feature transportation 'pods' that can move cars and cargo at up to 200 mph.

Here's the official description of the proposed system:

"Arrivo's autonomous network is engineered to eliminate traffic by zipping vehicles at speeds up to 200 mph as a new, seamless layer of transportation that integrates with existing roadways, city metros and automobiles.  The system uses only electric power to propel the vehicles and magnetic levitation to float the vehicles at high speeds."

In a lot of ways, Arrivo's claim that they're not competing with Musk's Hyperloop makes sense—at least in the Denver venture, they're focusing on short-distance convenience, rather than hundred-mile transportation routes.

In fact, according to BamBrogan: "If I want to travel really fast between two cities in a low-pressure environment inside a metal tube, I would use an airplane. They're very efficient, the ride is smooth, the orange juice is free."

Considering the first Arrivo track will lead directly to an airport, it doesn't look like he's joking.
