Elon Musk took to Twitter last night to poke fun at the scores of Californians baffled by the launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, which prompted various speculative tweets, Facebook posts, and the kind of puzzled befuddlement one usually associates with reality television stars and Instagram celebrities. His quip, which was retweeted over 70,000 times and received over 4.6 million views, contained a video from an unknown source accompanied by an appropriately "SoCal" narration. We assume the audio is real.

Musk's tweet inspired other users to respond with varying degrees of... well, see for yourself.

In fairness, the initial freakouts were probably justifiable: not everyone spends their days tracking space news, let alone local rocket launches, and the sight of the Falcon 9 was spectacular. The video below gives some indication of scale and context for those in Southern California who happened to be driving or looking up at the sky shortly after the launch.
