A little over two weeks ago, Twitter user @strayedaway (real name Ty) received a strange voicemail on his phone: a robotic voice reading out letters in the phonetic alphabet. Once the code was converted to English, it provided Ty with a message: "S Danger SOS it is dire for you to evacuate be caution they are not human 042933964230 SOS Danger SOS."

Soon after he posted about the strange voicemail on Twitter, other users revealed that they had received strange voicemails that resembled his, warning them that non-human beings were on Earth.

Here's a transcript of some of the other messages Twitter users received:

Opening quote
"This is not a test, this is not a joke. Over the past several years we have been wanting to send an automated voice message to people who understand and are not afraid. One message at a time will make many know the truth. The truth that other biological beings have been walking the supreme creation that sustains life. Earth. But as chaos comes to your planet we must show ourselves to prove that there are different ways to keep peace. Many do not agree with what we say, so they may hunt us down. We will make ourselves known to the best of our utmost capabilities. Clear your air space for safe consequences."
Closing quote

No, this isn't an episode of The X-Files or Black Mirror.

The series of numbers Ty posted in his original message have been construed to be coordinates, but depending on the formatting they point to either a location near Africa or Asia.

A Redditor named Uzumaki has speculated that the messages are related to the lost Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, and that they were transmitted from the aircraft's black box, though this theory has its flaws.

Even more disturbing than the voicemail messages, however, are the messages Ty began to receive after posting about them, which included threats and more coded messages, including Morse code that read: "The message received is well related to Stephen Hawking's death, you are not ready to face them."

It's still not clear whether this message is genuine or an elaborate game of riddles, similar to the one perpetrated by the group Cicada 3301 in 2012. Time to put on your tinfoil hats.
