NASA Gets Sued For Not Investigating Alien Life
When NASA announced that a jelly donut-sized object had mysteriously appeared next to their Mars Opportunity rover, they admitted their surprise and offered a few potential explanations. These explanations weren't particularly outlandish; it could have been one of Opportunity's wheels that disturbed a rock bed, or another impact may have unsettled nearby surface material. Imagine NASA's surprise then, when they discovered that a lawsuit had been filed against them for not investigating the object adequately.
Rhawn Joseph, a self-labelled scientist and cosmologist has filed the lawsuit claiming that the rock is an organic being and that NASA must investigate it more thoroughly.
Rhawn Joseph's requests are as follows:
"Petitioner has specifically requested and has demanded in writing the following of NASA, NASA's chief administrator Bolden, and NASA's rover team:
A) take 100 high resolution close-up infocus photos of the specimen identified in Sol 3540, at various angles, from all sides and from above down into the 'bowl' of the specimen, and under appropriate lighting conditions which minimize glare.
B) Take a minimum of 24 microscopic in-focus images of the exterior, lip, walls and interior of the specimen under appropriate lighting conditions.
C) NASA, and the rover team must make public and supply Petitioner with all high resolution photos and images of that specimen as demanded in A and B."
So, just a few small requests then? But all joking aside, let's take a quick look at the man behind the lawsuit. Rhawn Joseph has written pieces on everything from terrorist conspiracies to the existence of alien life. His standing in the scientific community is certainly not one of respect and Joseph has been on the receiving end of a great deal of criticism at the hand of evolutionary biologists for his rejection of theories such as Darwinism and the Big Bang Theory. One look at Joseph's website probably tells you all you need to know about the man.
While this may be a fairly unprecedented incident, one does not imagine that NASA will be quaking in their boots. The lawsuit that Joseph has filed offers no evidence of NASA breaking any laws or committing any wrongdoing. Last time we checked, you couldn't sue someone for having a different opinion....
